On Tuesday night, January 26 2016, a group that calls itself “Peace In St. Cloud” (PISC; they are obviously opposed to genuine peace and justice) is hosting an Islamophobic event against so-called “Sharia law” in the United States. Fear-mongering against Muslims has often taken the form of railing against Sharia Law, with almost no attention to facts.

Here’s a new City Pages article which discusses the event, and Senator David Brown’s history of hateful legislative attacks on Minnesota Muslims.

Minnesota State Senator David Brown publicly supports this Islamophobic event on Tuesday night, and other events throughout the state with this theme, and has introduced a bill to legislature to ‘ban foreign law’ from the US courts. This is a clear attempt at fear-mongering against Muslims, though it might actually have some effect in making financial services harder to get for observant Muslims.

WE ASK ALL CONCERNED TO CALL SENATOR BROWN AND DEMAND HE PUBLICLY WITHDRAW HIS SUPPORT OF THIS HATEFUL, FEAR-MONGERING EVENT.

Senator David Brown
(651) 296-8075
His Legislative Assistant is Dave Fraser
(651) 296-0476

Please consider using the following script when calling:

Hello my name is _______ I am calling out of concern for my Muslim friends, family and neighbors. During your term you have made it your mission to target the Muslim community by spreading fear and misinformation which fuels the racial and religious tension that racks our state. I strongly encourage you to retract defaming statements you have made about the Minnesota Muslim community, to stop pursuing an agenda of fear, and to retract your unnecessary and mean-spirited law targeted at the imagined threat of sharia law. In show of support we ask you specifically to withdraw your bill SF1264. We hope that the communities that are fighting against this fear and hearted, who strive to have of all races and religions live together in harmony and cooperation, are given your support.
